Bedroom 2. The first room to be renovated !!

The first room to be renovated was the bedroom on the south east corner. We started on 26th August 2008 by removing all the plaster and lath from the inside of the exterior walls so we could insulate. Lots of dust!!

All the studs and interiors of weatherboard are in good condition. We used breathable builders silver paper and then Thermowool wool batts for the insulation. Then plasterboard bought from Plastamasta in Launceston. The studs had to be packed out by 2 x 1″ pine as the plasterboard was much thinner than the original plaster and lath wall.By the Friday all the insulation was in, the timber packing on the studs and ready for plasterboarding.

As there was a giant built in wardrobe taking up the whole of the wall that divides this bedroom with the one behind we decided to take half the doors off and wall it up so that when we renovate the one behind we can make built in wardrobes in there as well.plasterboard & cornice

New cornice was put up, all the joints sealed and filled and sanded. The floors were sanded. A belt sander was tried first to see what the boards would look like and then a floor sander hired to complete the job. By 22nd September the room was ready for painting and floor sealing.

Nothing now can be done until November as Sean and Mandy have to travel back to Bathurst to pack a shipping container and put the house on the market.
