After finishing the extension to lock up stage and living with it for a while it became clear that something was needed to go on the ends of the rafters on the north and east ends of the building.
After a little while and after a visit to artist friend Megan at her studio it became obvious. Gargoyles. Well in actual fact they are not Gargoyles because Gargoyles are water spouts. The same kind of creatures but not as water spouts are known as grotesques.
So grotesques they would be. We asked Megan who works out of Round the Bend Art Shed in Deloraine to create 8 grotesques out of clay that would fit on the end of the rafters. She made a prototype that we were happy would fit and then went on to make ten. Just in case any broke in the firing process.
We chose eight and poceeded to put them up on the rafters. They are not huge but cheekily guard against anything that may be on the wind.
